Venetian Plaster by Art and Soul of Maui, Hawaii

What is Venetian Plaster?

Venetian plaster, or stucco Veneziano, has been used for centuries around the world, in homes, offices, and on architectural masterpieces in the catacombs of Rome, the ruins of Pompeii and the Aqueduct of Segovia in Spain. Architects, interior designers, artists, and home owners have all marveled at the distinctive beauty of this form of wall surfacing because of its smooth finish and silk-like shine. Venetian Plaster is different than other types of stucco in its multiple layers and high polished –marble like surface. These seasoned slaked lime finishes are used on interior and exterior surfaces. Its uniqueness lies, in large part, with the processes and ingredients that have remained consistent since the first century AD. These decorative effects are created from seasoned slaked lime plasters consisting of fine Carrara marble aggregate. When applied, these finishes give a visual depth, richness, a cool touch, and natural elegance of stone and marble. Over time, as the lime crystallizes in reaction with air (carbonation), the plaster returns to its natural state of limestone, creating a wall finish that is stronger and more durable than any painted surface. Throughout the ages, artisans who were skilled at creating such beauty and masterwork have been revered and sought after. At Art and Soul, all of our Master craftsmen are European trained in the fine art of Venetian Plaster. Our unique Italian finishes create limitless possibilities evoking style and grace.
